Guided Group Pilgrimages – 2014
December 4th, 2013
We have now concluded planning our programme of guided group
pilgrimages for next year. Below is a brief description of each of the
four trips we are scheduling. They are timed to coincide with Beltane,
Summer Solstice, Lammas and Michaelmas. For more information about
any of the pilgrimages please get in touch.
West Cornwall Pilgrimage – Wed 30th April to Tues 6th May.
From the cliff tops at Carn lês Boel we will walk as far as the banks of
the Fal estuary following a stretch of Mary/Michael Pilgrims Way. The
landscape through which we will be walking is justifiably renowned as
some of the most beautiful in Britain. Our route includes stunning
coastal scenery, rugged moorland and sheltered valleys along with a
wealth of significant sacred sites, part of west Cornwall’s rich and
unique cultural heritage. We will be camping at predominantly low key
and informal sites. Cost £220
Dartmoor Pilgrimage – Thurs 19th to Tues 24th June
Starting at the hill top church at Brentor we will cross Dartmoor passing
through some of the wildest terrain in southern England with its ancient
sites and dramatic Tors. We will camp on or close to the Moor some
nights, so be prepared for limited washing facilities, although
opportunities for wild swimming will be plentiful and there is at least
one campsite with showers on the trip! From the high moors our route
will follow the beautiful Teign valley to Dunsford. We will complete our
journey in Crediton one of the crossing points of the Michael and Mary
lines. Cost £185
Mid Cornwall and Bodmin Moor – Fri 1st to Wed 6th August.
Repeating our successful and enjoyable pilgrimage of last summer we
will walk through this diverse and sometimes surprising landscape from
the China clay country, through parts of a world heritage site, follow
exquisite river valleys and finish with the austere splendour of Bodmin
Moor where spirituality and the landscape are so closely entwined. We
have some beautiful places to stay on route, a mixture of farmer’s fields
and low key campsites. The quality of the environment is matched by
the rich diversity of sacred sites along the way, including ancient stone
circles, holy wells, burial chambers and peaceful parish churches.
Cost £185
Somerset Levels and Glastonbury – Thurs 25th to Tues 30th September
It seems appropriate to complete this season of guided group
pilgrimages at Glastonbury at Michaelmas. As a place of pilgrimage
Glastonbury has been significant for thousands of years, its rich history
interwoven with myth and legend. This pilgrimage includes a section
along the edge of the Blackdown Hills and proceeds through the unique
landscape of the Somerset Levels. Reaching Glastonbury on foot rather
than by car is a special experience. We will camp close to town for two
nights to give ourselves time to visit the most significant sites without
haste. Cost £195
