Glastonbury Pilgrimage to go ahead
July 20th, 2013
Glastonbury Pilgrimage 4th -8th September
The response to the suggestion of a pilgrimage to Glastonbury has been encouraging, hence we are going ahead with a 5 day trip between Wednesday 4th and Sunday 8th September.
We will begin in Taunton, meeting at the railway station and will walk from here to Glastonbury following a section of Mary/Michael Pilgrims Way. Arriving in Glastonbury on foot as pilgrims did for centuries is a special experience. Once there we will have a whole day to explore the sites of spiritual significance in and around the town.
Our journey will give us the chance to visit many special places on route including Burrowbridge Mump and the beautiful church at North Curry (sometimes described as the Cathedral of the Levels). We will also have the opportunity as we walk to really get off the beaten track and immerse ourselves in the unique and beautiful landscape of the Somerset Levels and reflect on some significant events of history that have occurred here and the stories and legends that surround them.
We will walk on average about 10 miles a day with periods of silence as we walk interspersed with opportunity to share and get to know others participating in the pilgrimage.
As with our previous pilgrimages, luggage will be carried by our support vehicle so that participants in the pilgrimage can travel light as they walk. We will rendez- vous with the vehicle each evening.
Alongside the usual camping option, on this pilgrimage as an experiment we have also ensured that our camp sites are situated close to Bed and Breakfast accommodation enabling us to offer this as an alternative for those who might be deterred from participating in the pilgrimage by the prospect of camping.
The pilgrimage will cost £130 for the camping option. This cost will cover campsite fees and all meals, vehicle costs and a leadership fee. Food will be nourishing, vegetarian and where possible organic. The B and B option will cost in the region of £250 although this will vary depending on whether people are sharing a room, or require single occupancy.
